“What Achieving a Degree Means to Me”
Tuesday, March 03, 2009
When I graduated high school in 1991, college was the last thing on my
mind. In April of my senior year I had a baby. I made the decision to raise
the baby with no help from his father. This decision required me to make
some different choices than the typical high school graduate. On of them
choices was to work full-time to support my child and to hold off on going
to college. Now that my son is seventeen-years-old, I decided that this is
the perfect time for me to achieve my life-long dream of becoming a nurse. I
have been taking classes since January of 2004 and I will obtain my ASN in
August 2009.
I am going to school to obtain a degree in nursing. I know that the
children are our future, so when I get my degree I would love to work with
children in some capacity. I have wanted to do this since I was a child and
my mom always told me that she has always envisioned me working with
children in some capacity. I believe that my personality and my dedication
to make life better for other people will be a great opportunity to make a
real difference many people’s lives.
When I started taking classes, I was at a point in my career where I was
just ready to move on. I know that my job is important but I do not feel
satisfied going to work everyday. I know that people depend on me to do my
job, but I really am not happy. I work hard every day and do the best I can
at everything I do.
When I get my degree, I will one of few people in my family to achieve
that goal. I know my parents, husband and my son will be very proud of me. I
strive to do my best at keeping a full time job, going to school part time,
and maintaining a household with a teenager. It is difficult at times, but I
know that education is one of the most important things in life, so I am
determined to achieve my goals. I am very dedicated and strong willed.
Starting school again after 13 years was very hard for me. I will always
encourage my son to dream big and also attend college after graduating from
high school.
In conclusion, I would like to say that obtaining my degree would be a
life long dream. I know that with hard work and determination that dream
will become reality. If I can make a difference in one person’s life, I
will be happy.
